AI Web Browsers Have Arrived. Are We Ready for This?
Plus: Google's AI is now reading your private messages, Canva gives workers a week to learn AI, and YouTube cracks down on slop.
👋 Happy Thursday AI Marketers. A week that started out slow is ending with a bang. Perplexity launched Comet, the first AI web browser. But OpenAI isn’t far behind with its own. Google crossed a major privacy line you need to know about. And YouTube is coming down on AI video (even though it’s everywhere). Let’s get you caught up…
Ready or Not: Perplexity’s Comet Browser is Here.
Perplexity’s AI-powered Comet browser just launched, along with some big promises. It will transform how you use the internet. Browsing will turn into a conversation. The web will become “an extension of your mind.” Need to compare insurance quotes? Need to buy something? Need help with investment decisions? Just ask.
It’s the frictionless, agentic experience top AI labs have been teasing for months. But is it really ready for prime time? Hallucinations, privacy concerns, and bias are a long way from being solved, yet here we are. Handing the keys to our digital lives over to AI. Comet is now rolling out to Perplexity Max subscribers and via waitlist. Stay tuned as users begin stress testing its capabilities and reporting back.
OpenAI’s Browser is Just Weeks Away
Right on Perplexity's heels, OpenAI is gearing up to launch its own AI-driven browser. Details are still sparse, but with ChatGPT in its corner, expectations are sky-high. As the browser wars get an AI-powered reboot, watch closely. The battle for the new internet is just getting started.
Google’s AI is Now Reading Your Private Messages
Google just crossed a major privacy boundary. Gemini now accesses third-party apps on phones, including Messages and WhatsApp. And there's no easy off switch. As AI slips deeper into our devices without clear consent, serious questions about privacy and trust are emerging. If you're texting clients or colleagues, you might want to check your settings. Fast.
Canva Gives its Employees a Week to Learn AI
Canva is betting big on AI, giving its entire 5,000-person team an entire week off to master AI tools. The goal? Build an AI-savvy workforce from the ground up. It's a bold move, but will it pay off? Other companies considering a similar jump might want to take notes and see if Canva’s grand AI experiment works.
YouTube Cracking Down on Low Effort Videos as Concern Over AI Slop Grows
YouTube is cracking down on AI-generated "slop" churned out with little substance or originality. As content quality takes center stage, creators who rely too heavily on mass-produced or repetitive videos might find themselves squeezed out. Time to prioritize thoughtful, unique content, or risk losing visibility.
🎥 I sifted through a billion YouTube videos. Here’s one for you:
“Vibe coding” has become an easy target, but misconceptions about the need for technical know-how are keeping brands and marketers on the sidelines when they should be diving in head first. If that sounds like you, this 60-second explainer for Replit is the perfect primer. In fact, every brand should have an intro this helpful.
