E-Commerce Checkouts are Coming to ChatGPT
Plus: Google Discover threatens mobile traffic, Claude and Canva team up, and AI video just got even crazier.
👋 Happy Thursday AI Marketers. It’s been a big week of AI product updates. OpenAI is getting into the e-commerce game. Canva and Wix both add major AI tools. And I can’t even describe how impressive Runway’s Act-Two is. You’ve got to see it to believe it. Let’s get you caught up…
Checkouts are Coming to ChatGPT (and OpenAI is Taking a Cut)
OpenAI wants a slice of your shopping cart. ChatGPT will soon let users complete purchases directly in chat, earning OpenAI a commission from each sale. Shopify is already showcasing early versions to merchants. For retail brands, this transforms AI-powered product discovery into real revenue. But it also means partnering with yet another platform that controls customer checkout, challenging brands to maintain direct consumer relationships as the chatbot economy expands.
Google Discover Adds AI Summaries, Threatening Publishers With Further Traffic Declines
Google is adding AI summaries to Discover, the main news feed inside Google’s search app on iOS and Android. For content-driven websites it’s another major blow to traffic that’s in steep decline on mobile. Instead of showcasing original headlines or stories, Google’s app now surfaces its own AI summaries, with the ubiquitous disclaimer that AI “can make mistakes.”
Claude Can Now Make and Edit Canva Designs
Claude AI just integrated Canva’s design tools directly into its chatbot interface. Users can now effortlessly create presentations, resize images, or summarize content using text prompts alone. With AI streamlining design tasks, marketing teams gain a powerful new workflow shortcut, without jumping between apps.
Wix Launches AI Visibility Overview with Full Support for AI-Powered Search
Wix’s new AI Visibility Overview offers brands insights into their visibility within AI-driven searches like ChatGPT and Gemini. This fresh approach, dubbed Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), allows marketers to monitor AI citations, brand sentiment, and competitive positioning. For teams watching their search visibility shift from traditional SEO toward AI-generated results, Wix's GEO tool comes right on time.
Meta Cracks Down On AI-Generated Facebook Spam
Has Meta finally had enough of AI-generated spam clogging up Facebook feeds? The platform now aims to demonetize and deprioritize repetitive AI-made content. For brands and creators fighting for visibility, this crackdown is good news, provided Meta’s AI moderation avoids false positives. Time to ensure your content strategy emphasizes genuine originality to avoid being inadvertently flagged.
As CMOs Embrace AI, Lack of Measurement is Holding Them Back
AI is everywhere, yet marketers are struggling to pin down its ROI. Without standardized metrics to measure impact, marketing execs remain cautious, sticking with agency partners and incremental deployments. Until CMOs can confidently connect AI investment to financial outcomes, expect continued hesitancy.
Runway just dropped Act-Two, and I'm struggling to avoid the word "insane" (it’s a major pet peeve). This new tech lets you film yourself performing a scene, then seamlessly transfers your motion, speech, and expressions onto any character image. The results? Mind-boggling. The next big milestone for AI video. Just watch.
